My name is Dr. Alex Patterson Tichy, PT, DPT, SCS and I am a Sports Physical Therapist at the Physical Therapy Center for Sports & Performing Arts in Michigan. I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Wayne State University and additionally obtained my Board Specialty in Sports Physical Therapy. I decided to create this blog as a space where athletes and active people can come to learn and gain knowledge that can help optimize training and sports performance.
Before I began my journey to become a physical therapist, I was an elite level figure skater. I began skating at the age of 4, immediately fell in love with the sport of figure skating and competed into my early 20s. I was a Junior Ladies National Medalist, Senior Ladies National Competitor and I was a member of the USA Figure Skating Team. The sport of figure skating taught me many important life lessons, including the importance of hard work, discipline and perseverance. However, one of the most important lessons that I learned from participating in high level sport is the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. Most athletes are excellent at pushing themselves to the limit, persevering and giving 100% effort during all training sessions. However, taking the time to be kind to themselves and put effort into their physical and mental wellness if often overlooked. Health and wellness are primary pieces of the athlete puzzle that are necessary for optimal training and performance.
Future blog posts will cover various topics related to sports health and wellness. Blog posts will provide information on exercises, injury reduction, training, recovery, warm-ups, sports psychology, nutrition and traveling for competition. Some content will come from my knowledge as a sports physical therapist. Other content will come from interviews with experts in various professions. Also look for various “sports highlights” in which I write about topics related to a specific sport. My hope is that you will gain useful knowledge that helps you improve your training and sports performance goals.
